Unable to launch from Docking Bay

Post by brankok »

Hello,

Starflight was my very first game and no game afterwards reached the athmosphere.
So I was very delighted as I found this game and isntalled it immediately.
Unfortunetaly I 'm unable to leave the docking bay. Every time I try I get the attached error message.

I'm using Windows 7 Home Premium German on an Acer Laptop (7739g) with NVIDIA GEFORCE 610M.
Except Visual Studio 2010 Professional there is no 'excotic' software installed.

To avoid misunderstandings, the program crashes after pressing "Launch" (not after trying to escape to starport).

I also tried to install the game on a Windows XP machine. Unfortunetaly no exe file runs in any way.
I guess the needed .NET Framework is missing (Installed are 1.1 and 4.0.). I know that some software needs exactly the Framework it has been programmed on, and the error messages indicate that this may be the problem.
Which .NET Framework version is required?

Thanks!

Have you ever figured out what the problem is here/how to get past it? I'm stuck at this exact problem (after updating video drivers because the game was running around 6-7 fps on a corei7 with a gt540m graphics chip)

now I get the same crash as you, except for the file location (I have my game installed at "C:\Games\Starflight TLC")

.NET Framework is not required.

The code base is Visual C++ 2005 SP1. All required files should be included, but you could try installing the redistributable package:

I'm having the same problems with the same error message.
Has a fix been initiated?
Any help with the above would be most appreciated.
Thanx in advance.

Ok, I managed to fix this issue by UN-installing, then re-installing the game...
I hope this helps others with the same problem...

I'm guessing corrupt data resolved by deletion? The installer is not really necessary. All it does is unpack the game, create a desktop shortcut, and create a hook in control panel for uninstalling.

With the 1.03 release available today I upgraded Allegro to 4.2.3, but it's still a 10-year old library, incompatible with Allegro 5 or anything else more modern without a complete rewrite...
