Bug Reporting

Post by toyotaed »

Science Mission 37

Flew too close to a star; the screen trembled as it normally does when close to a star. The 'trembling' then continued after I entered hyperspace.

Clicking on escape (like to save the game) resulted in the trembling to cease. Normal screen performance. Resuming the game, the trembling continued.

Might just be a fluke, or something unique to my machine.

If anybody has a minute, please re-run Science 37 and go near some stars to see if the issue is indeed valid. It would be beneficial to the testing if somebody else could see if the phenomonon happens to them.

We ran across issues like this a while ago - and the code for causing the screen to shake is very simple and extremely unlikely to contain any bugs that cause this problem. (The quest number has nothing to do with it) We believe that the problem is in the OpenGL library that the game is using and/or sloppy implementation of OpenGL by video card manufacturers.

The only fixes are to leave the vicinity of the star and then approach it again and leave a second time, or to save the game, quit, and then load it again. Unfortunately unless a newer version of the game library is released to solve this problem, there's not much that can be done.
